It's often said that an authentic Blackthorn Shillelagh should be harvested in Ireland so that it will bring good luck and fortune and that is exactly what this is. A rustic, hefty cudgel, the shillelagh was originally used as a form of defence against rogues and thieves in the olden days. They were often made heavier by the head being tipped with lead and often further hardened by being rubbed in butter, put in the chimney and left to season for months! Each one is individual and so will differ slightly in size and appearance to the one photographed. Shilelagh, shilleleagh or shellelagh, however you spell it, is pronounced the same,"shuh lay lee". It makes a perfect Irish gift to mount on the wall as an Irish trophy, or next to the door, to scare off intruders. Measures approx. 12" (30cm).
