Finished in a wonderful bronze this symbol represents the Celtic Spiral which is one of the earliest decorative ornaments used in Celtic art. The magic of three is found in the triskele or triple spiral which comes from the prehistoric site of Newgrange, a 5000 year old attempt to make sense of the universe.

The Irish national emblem, the Harp, has a long association with the idea of Ireland and has been used from Gaelic times, through the struggles for independence to the present day. The Brian Boru Harp in Trinity College, Dublin belonged to this high king of Ireland at the turn of the first millennium, a cultured warrior who united his country and played the harp, music which speaks to the soul.

This beautifully simple bronze ornament illustrates a remarkable character and event in Irish history - Saint Brendan The Navigator. He sailed from the West of Ireland in a large curragh (traditional hide covered boat) in the 6th century with a crew of monks and, is now believed, to have discovered America (identified in early texts as the 'Land of Promise') some 900 years before Columbus!

The book of Kells, brought to Ireland during the 8th century to evade the Vikings, is probably the finest work of manuscript illustration ever designed. It was thought that birds travelled freely between heaven and earth, were possessors of secrets and were seen as heavenly messengers. This very Irish image is taken from a carving on the early Christian Kilnaruane pillar stone, which overlooks Bantry Bay and depicts a curragh, a traditional Irish craft, with helmsman and four oarsmen and may celebebrate St. Brendan - 'the Navigator's' - discovery of America in the sixth century during his 'Voyage of St. Brendan' or immram - a traditional Irish voyage story.
