Here's a great old Guinness advertisement depicting a sailor returning home on leave 'Looking forward to a Guinness' - and no wonder! He's fully laden with kit bag, baskets of oranges and lemons and a string bag full of melons and pineapples, presumably to trade for several pints of Guinness and, judging by his expression, that's all that's on his mind!

Before a central bottling plant was establshed at the brewery in the 1970s, publicans bottled their own beer in their premises from barrels and hogheads delivered by the company. Aficianados believed this bottle-conditioned beer to be far superior to all others. The product was replicated in factory production but pasteurised to prolong shelf life. This metal wall plaque, size 20x30cm, depicts a bottle of Burke’s, the largest bottler of Guinness stout, in the USA.
